During our childhood, and further on in our lives we all have dreams about our future, we dream about being famous; of course we want to be immeasurably rich, but overall we want to make a difference in this chaotic world. But deep down we know, even if we ignore it, that the majority of those dreams will be shattered into pieces, and that they will turn out to be a disappointment. Because the chance that we will be rich and famous is almost nonexistent. However, there is nothing wrong about having dreams and expectations about the future, and if we work and try our best, at the end we will achieve our goal but only if we truly want it.

When I think about my future, nearby or distant, I am not sure, of course I also dream about making a difference in the world, and I can only hope that fifteen or more years from now, I have made that difference.

When I finish High School I want to go to study abroad, maybe in the United States, or closer to home in Europe. One of the things that I really want is to study at a university that is known for it’s high quality of education, like Oxford or Harvard, but I know that it is almost impossible. I don’t know what I’m going to study, I’m only sure about the fact that I will study and it doesn’t matter in which country or what.

When I graduate, I would love to take a few months off to travel to far countries, to experience different cultures, religions and meet people from those countries. During the journey I certainly want to do voluntary work, maybe teaching English to children in Africa or South-East Asia is a good idea; I also would like to help with the fight against AIDS and help to reduce the devastation of this epidemic in the world’s poorest countries.

After that journey, I think that New York would be the place for me, I love the energy and the atmosphere of big cities, and standing at the start of my career, hopefully, New York would give me the opportunities that I need. Regarding my future job, I don’t really know what I want to dedicate a big part of my life to. I have been thinking about a job in design, maybe architecture or a job in fashion industry, but all options are open at this time of my life.

Then, the perfect scenario would be that I get promotions, so that I have a permanent income, and that I meet the love of my life and that we live together in a nice loft or penthouse in New York until we get married and have children. At the point that we start a family I think that the best option is that we would move to a stand-alone single-family home in suburbia with an always perfect green lawn and a white-picked fence. As you can see, I want to live the real American Dream.

When my family and I move to the suburbs I think that the time is right to take a step back. My wife and I should try to find the right balance between working at home and at an office, so we can be there for the family, but that we also can pay the bills and still enjoy our jobs. Because working at home means that the working place is close to the place where people relax and that could cause different problems. From another point of view, working from nine to five at an office means that family comes second.

So in my opinion, happiness is the exact balance between a few factors that condition our lives, which are; family, health, financial security and work, in that exact same order. In my life the thing that I would value most would be my family, so the number one rule would be: family first, no matter what.
